What is the best age for Newborn Photography?
Generally, ‘Newborn’ Photography is defined as the first two weeks, between 4-14 days old, this is due to the fact that in this period babies are generally at their sleepiest, and they are still very flexible from being in the womb for those curled up poses. Additionally, milk pimples often come in from around 2 weeks. It is for this reason we suggest booking your Newborn Session in ASAP as I book a limited number of newborns per month to assure availability.
However, if something comes up, and bub is older than two weeks, please still do get in contact – I have a lot of experience with photographing older babies and we can certainly still do a shoot for older babies, just with some tweaks.
But how do I know when to book when baby may not come on their due date?
You are booked in based on your due date – however your specific session date isn’t booked until bub arrives – this is why I take a limited number of newborns per month. Once bub arrives get in contact, and I will send the availability for their first two weeks.
Can we have our session on the weekend?
All Sessions are Monday – Friday, however if you require a weekend session we can see what can be worked out, however there is an additional charge.

Do you require a deposit?
Yes, the session fee is payable to hold your session/due date. Your images are not payable until your reveal session where you get to look through your images and select what products you would like for your home.
dOES THE SESSION FEE INCLUDE IMAGES?
The Session Fee covers your included sessions – the consultation, photography session and reveal session. This covers the photographers time, expertise, and use of all props etc. It does not include any images. All prints/products are sold separately.
CAN WE HAVE A FAMILY PHOTO AND SIBLING PHOTOS DURING THE SESSION?
Absolutely! Family photos are certainly included in Newborn Sessions, they are some of my favourites!
Do you offer event photography?
Unfortunately I do not offer event photography, either Weddings or Parties, unfortunately due to my bad back I am not able to stand with my heavy equipment for long periods, so this is not something I can offer.
What should we wear?
I have a selection of dress’ available for mums in the studio that will be available for you to go through during your consultation and utilise during your session. Once booked, you will also be sent a clothing guide to help you plan for your session – plus at your consultation, and any time you need it, you’ll have my help in planning your outfits.
Should you wish to use more elaborate gowns, when booking through Ellie Dean Photography you also receive 15% off your gown hire from the selection of beautiful gowns at Mama Rentals.
can i add hair and makeup?
Absolutely! We have two incredible hair and makeup artists we work with frequently, check out their work below. If you would like to add hair and makeup I can arrange it all for you, the makeup artists will charge their own fees.
Do you sell digital packages?
The focus of our business is to deliver you beautiful heirloom quality artwork to go up and be displayed in your home, however we also know how important a backup is and that many want the files on their phone etc, so for every product you purchase you will also receive the matching digital file, printable up to 8×10”.
Do you provide raws?
No, a photographers work is not contained to just the photography itself, but the style and editing of the finished product, therefore we never give out raw, unedited images.
Where is your studio?
The studio is located in the Western Suburbs of Melbourne, in Bacchus Marsh, Victoria. We service all surrounding areas such as Ballarat, Werribee, Melton, Gisborne, Rowsley, Lancefield, Ballan etc. For outdoor sessions, travel within 40km of Bacchus Marsh is included.
